Terry Hughes Trophy Results Summer 2011

The Terry Hughes Trophy is presented to the archer who after shooting at least two different types of rounds of the Summer Evening Programme has reduced their handicap the most.

Rounds were shot during June, July and August consisting of various Warwick’s in June, 30/50 metres in July and 30metres only in August.
Where archers shot two rounds per month their two resulting handicap ratings were averaged.
If more than 2 rounds were shot in a month I took the two highest handicap results.
Following the rounds of June and July I obtained a average of the two months I called the Summer Average.
Once the August round had been completed  I used the same criteria as I had in June and July to find an August average handicap figure.
That figure was taken from the Summer Average and the person with the biggest reduction (a minus score indicating improved performance) wins.

21 archers in total shot at least one round. 17 shot at least one Warwick and 30/50 metre round to qualify for the final calculations.
The total figure is down on 2010 but there was also an increase in those shooting every month.
Those that did not shoot during all 3 months are shown as Did Not Qualify DNQ and Did Not Shoot DNS in the particular month.

I thank everyone for taking part and hope that you have enjoyed doing so.
Special thanks to Lisa and Steve who stepped in during August to ensure we completed the programme.
If the experience has increased your determination to improve your leisure shooting, or given you the push to try further competitions, then that’s even better.

Congratulations to Justin Hurley –Roe for his win and a hearty well done to Craig Shinkin, Darren King, Geoff Ball and Nick (Newbie) Wilson for all finishing in second place.

Regards

John

Richard Gherardi Shoot

17 Archers attended our shoot in memory of Richard Gherardi a very talented young archer who died in 2006.

Well done to Darren King our winner with Geoff Ball second and Steph Mountney third.

Steph and John Shinkin both set new club records. Given the strong gusty wind that was no mean achievement. Only two archers ended up with a plus handicap score which said a lot about the weather conditions.

£243 was raised for the " Keep the Beat" Charity.

Lincolnshire Outdoor County Championship 2011

Archers from Silver Spoon Bowmen made a short journey to Boston where Pilgrim Bowmen were holding the annual County Outdoor Championships. Shooting in weather that turned from the early morning sunshine and shirtsleeves to November like heavy rain and waterproofs the Bowmen once again showed their strength in depth taking away several trophies. In addition to the County Championships an inaugural team challenge took place between archers from Lincolnshire and Norfolk and representatives from Silver Spoon Bowmen shot for the both Junior and Senior County teams . Both teams triumphed over their Norfolk County rivals

The juniors once again led the way with Amy Gott winning the Junior Lady Recurve event

Ryan Mountney took the Junior Gent Compound trophy

Abbie Spinks won the Junior Lady Compound setting a new County and Club record in her event.

Henry Mynott just failed to claim a clean sweep by the Club Juniors in coming 3rd in the Junior Gent Recurve event despite setting a big personal best on the way to setting a new club record.

Stephanie Mountney  scored the same total as the winner of the Senior lady Compound event but lost first place as the winner had scored one more gold than her.

Dan Smith came third for bronze medal in the Senior Gents Compound event.

One final triumph for the Bowmen came when the team of Abbie Spinks, Lisa Spinks, Lynn Fisher and Henry Mynott took the County team trophy for the first time for many years.

Press Release
Silver Spoon Bowmen Spalding

We are most grateful for the grant awarded to us by Archery GB, the benefit would be wide ranging.
We are in partnership with Lincolnshire Sports Partnership to develop a system of encouraging the 50+ age group into archery, carrying out publicity aimed directly at this section of the community. To help towards meeting our objective we are in the process, during 2011 of training four new Level 1 coaches within the club, one being a junior and two aged 50+. Also, two are female, this will help spread the workload and facilitate Have-a-go’s and beginners courses for this section of the community during the summer months.

It has been identified that there is a need for this as statistically 49% of the population of Lincolnshire are aged 50+.This percentage gives a clear message that there may be an untapped group of people who would benefit from an activity such as archery. The statistics are from the Local Sports Profile Tool provided by Sport England. With more Level 1 coaches within the club it would allow the more senior coaches to concentrate on the experienced archers and help them to progress with their standard of shooting.

It would also increase our membership, and give a mature sustainability to the club. As this age group are ideal for carrying out voluntary activities in organisations such as ours, it would further embed our club into the community and foster a social partnership with those involved.

Furthermore, it would benefit the community by giving this section of the community the opportunity to embrace an activity which is inclusive and open to people from all walks of life giving them a sense of purpose and community spirit, the health benefits are also beneficial, whilst archery is reasonably sedate, fitness and exercise is part of the requirement of training
